Wrapping Up 2023 in Lanzarote and Charging Ahead into 2024!

We've just concluded our final training camp of the year in Lanzarote, and it feels fantastic to shift gears from our intense two-boat tuning sessions to the exhilarating realm of bigger fleet racing. The transition was seamless, and the numerous practice races with top-tier boats reinforced that our speed training has seamlessly translated into competitive racing.

Lanzarote graced us with consistently favourable conditions, boasting winds ranging from 8 to 15 knots every day. This provided an ideal backdrop for refining our downwind pumping technique, a crucial aspect of our performance strategy. Regrettably, Twiggy experienced a back tweak just before the camp, prompting us to limit our on-water sessions to one hour. Surprisingly, this turned out to be a blessing in disguise, ensuring that our sessions remained intense and focused. Additionally, I was still recovering from an illness, making the decision to keep things concise on the water even more prudent.

To overcome these challenges, I brought in another crew member for the initial days of sailing. Having a fresh perspective proved invaluable, offering insights that helped reinforce certain aspects of our strategy.

As we wrapped up the camp, there was a palpable sense of accomplishment, feeling that we had truly maximised our time in Lanzarote. Now, we're back home for the Christmas break.

And now, onto 2024!

Reflecting on the past four years since embarking on this journey, I'm amazed at the progress we've made and the unforeseen paths we've taken. It's surreal to think that we are on the brink of facing the Olympic selection trials. The journey has been nothing short of incredible.

Approaching 2024, I reflect on our uncertain start and appreciate the journey. Let's embrace the challenges and excitement of the new year.
