ROYAL Lymington Yacht Club sailors Vita Heathcote and Milly Boyle have been nominated for an accolade at the British Yachting Awards.

The pair have been selected alongside Matilda Nicholls for the Young Sailor of the Year award after they clinched the 420 world championship crown in Vilamoura, Portugal, in June.

During the event, they fought off Italian duo Irene Calici and Petra Gregori to claim a dramatic victory by four points.

Vita and Milly both studied at Priestlands and are best friends off the water. They have risen through the ranks of the British Youth Sailing Programme after winning national, European and world honours.

Vita told the A&T: “It is such a good way to end the chapter of the past four years.

“It’s been the best four years I could have imagined and to end it with an award with my sailing partner and best friend, it’s awesome.

“It meant a lot to us to get nominated as a team, and it’s great to be recognised for our teamwork and achievements.”

Vita also recalled what was a “dream” way to finish: “It was our last event together and to win it we’ve literally completed the 420 sailor’s dream.

“I can’t describe the feeling. It was so tense the race before, and we didn’t know whether we got it or not but at the end of the day it was a collapse of exhaustion but also so exciting.”

Vita and Milly also thanked their sponsors Cecil Wright and Moore Blatch for their continued support throughout their campaign.
